Xiaomi 14 presented: No other mobile screen is this bright
by Lorenz Keller
Images, data sheets and launch date: Practically all the information about the new Samsung Galaxy S24 has already been revealed. You can't expect much news when it comes to the hardware.
On 17 January, Samsung presents its new flagship smartphones. Like its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 comes in three variants. Two leakers have now published details of official data sheets and even 100 images.
The hardware details known so far don't show much more than minor improvements to individual specs. I have summarised everything and compared it with the data of the predecessor
The display size of the larger model remains the same as before. The S24 and S24 Plus, however, each have a 0.1 inch larger screen. What is probably more significant is that the Korean manufacturer has once again increased the maximum brightness: the S23 already had a good 1750 nits, now the S24 even has 2600 nits. For all three models. This puts Samsung ahead of the current iPhones and Google Pixel. Only one manufacturer offers even more HDR peak brightness, namely Xiaomi with 3000 nits.
There is a certain question mark for customers in Europe when it comes to processors. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is set for the S24 in the USA, but it is unclear whether Samsung's own Exynos 2400 processor will be used again in Europe. According to rumours, this does not affect the largest and most expensive models, but only the normal S24 and S24 Plus. This would be sobering for many users, as the Exynos chips have failed to impress in the past.
The range of memory sizes could vary depending on the market. The RAM, on the other hand, is now 12 GB as standard on the Ultra and Plus. It is also pleasing that the batteries are slightly larger, at least in the two smaller models.
All three S24 variants look very similar to their predecessors. The mobile is now available in one of four colour variants in yellow-gold. What is also noticeable in the pictures: The frame on the S24 is more closely matched to the colour of the back. On the predecessors, it stands out somewhat. While all three models of the S23 had a frame made of specially hardened aluminium, Samsung is now using titanium for the first time on the S24 Ultra.
The hardware is therefore unlikely to bring any major surprises on 17 January. The situation is different with the software, about which little has been leaked. Samsung is said to be equipping the S24 with artificial intelligence.
The AI assistant is permanently installed on the devices, improves photos, helps with writing emails and summarises documents. Phone calls can be translated in real time - all without sending data to the cloud. That would definitely be a very exciting approach.
