"Minecraft" remains No. 1 with 300 million sales
Blocks are not only an incredibly popular toy in the physical world. "Minecraft" is still the best-selling game of all time and has a huge lead in second and third place.
In "Minecraft" you explore, build and survive alone or with others in a world of blocks. This world is procedurally generated and virtually infinite in size. Sales of the sandbox computer game, which was released as an early access game in 2009, are similar: It has now sold over 300 million copies. This was announced by the developers from Mojang Studios as part of the virtual event Minecraft Live 2023.
"Minecraft" broke the 100 million sales barrier back in 2016. It then took four years until it passed the 200 million brand in May 2020. Now it's 300 million - the game's success continues unabated. This is probably also due to the fact that the game principle is suitable for almost all age groups. It is also regularly updated with new content and is available for every system.
The gap between "Minecraft" and its rivals is enormous: an open-world game also occupies second place among the world's best-selling video games. Silver goes to "Grand Theft Auto V" with over 185 million units sold. Blocks also greet us from third place: "Tetris" is a blockbuster with 100 million sales.
