New Samsung robot cleans with steam
Samsung is presenting the new Bespoke Jet Bot Combo at the CES technology trade fair. It uses hot steam to clean the mops - and moisten them. It also specialises in stains.
In recent years, Samsung has hardly had any news on the topic of robot hoovers. The current top model has been on the market since 2021. A successor will finally be unveiled at the world's largest tech trade fair CES in Las Vegas from 9 January.
The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo has several special features to offer. It not only vacuums, but also picks up with two round mops. This is now standard in the industry. For the first time, however, a manufacturer is using steam.
The mops are heated up with steam
The steam is generated in the base station and used in three ways. Firstly, it heats the water to wash the mops after cleaning. Then the mops are directly steamed hot to disinfect them and prevent odours. The round pads are then also dried in the base station.
The third use for the steam is special: if the robot detects a stubborn stain on the floor while cleaning, it travels to the base station. The mops are heated and moistened with steam, after which the stain is cleaned intensively. The mops can scrub away the dirt at up to 170 revolutions per minute.
Carpet too high, damp pads are thrown off
The Korean manufacturer says it has improved the artificial intelligence for recognising stains, objects and rooms. The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo recognises the type of floor it is cleaning and adjusts the cleaning programme accordingly. Carpets, for example, are only vacuumed.
In addition, it recognises whether it is sufficient to simply lift the mops to clean high-pile carpets. If not, it returns to the base station and can drop them there. This is a feature that only a few competitors offer so far.
Artificial intelligence is also used to create maps. The Samsung automatically recognises and categorises rooms such as the living room or kitchen. It also automatically suggests zones that the robot does not clean.
The Bespoke Jet Bot Combo can be seen for the first time at CES, but some details are still unclear. For example, the battery life, the size of the dust container or the water tank. It should be clear that the Samsung robot has a camera on board for object recognition, but how else it navigates is still unclear. Samsung has also not yet said anything on the topic of price and market launch. I expect a launch this year and a price well over 1000 francs or euros, as with its predecessor.
