Nokia extends security updates for the first smartphone generation
If you are using a Nokia smartphone from 2017, you can use it for longer. HMD Global is providing the first generation of its Nokia smartphones with security updates for another year - with one exception.
In February 2017, HMD Global presented the first of its Nokia smartphones. A total of five mobile phones were released that year: the Nokia 3, Nokia 5, Nokia 6, Nokia 8 and Nokia 2. The promise at the time was that the software would be updated for two years. The manufacturer has managed this to date and is now extending the period for security updates by one year. .
Quarterly security updates
After two years, however, the period of monthly security updates for the five Nokia models will end. Instead, HMD Global wants to summarise them in an update every three months - at least for four of them. The Nokia 3 will make the start in September 2019, with its last update currently scheduled for September 2020.
For the Nokia 5, 6 and 8, the quarterly updates will begin in October 2019 and are promised until October 2020. However, the Nokia 2, which is the worst equipped of the five models, will be discontinued in November 2019.
The updates now announced are bug fixes and the closure of security gaps. You can't expect any new functions. The smartphones will remain on Android 9 Pie, an update to Android Q is not planned.
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
