Only worthwhile to a limited extent: Spotify's new Duo plan

Spotify has expanded its subscription catalogue. The new Duo subscription is available in Switzerland from today. It costs 16.95 francs or 12.99 euros and is only worthwhile for a few.
Spotify is the first streaming supplier to offer a subscription for just two people. With Tidal, Apple Music, Deezer, Play Music, YouTube Music or Amazon Music Unlimited, you will search in vain for such a plan.
Announced a few days ago, the new plan is now also available in Switzerland and Germany. The plan costs 16.95 francs in Switzerland and 12.99 euros in Germany and includes two fully-fledged Premium Spotify accounts.
For lonely people and couples
On closer inspection, however, the Duo subscription is only worthwhile for two groups: Those who have used the individual plan alone until now and know someone who is the same. Or for those who have previously used the Family plan, which costs just 2.95 francs or 2 euros, with two people instead of six.
On the other hand, the Duo travelcard is much easier to organise. It's tedious if you, as the owner of the whole group, have to chase after everyone to get them to pay the subscription fees. Especially if it's not your own family or close friends.
If there are two of you, the new plan costs a rounded 8.50 francs or 6.50 euros per person, which is significantly cheaper than the individual plan, which costs 12.95 francs and 9.99 euros per person. However, if you have five friends, the Family plan is significantly cheaper at 3.30 francs or 2.50 euros per person.
As with the Family Mix, the Duo plan comes with a shared playlist. This is constantly updated with music that both users of the plan like according to the algorithm.

Testing devices and gadgets is my thing. Some experiments lead to interesting insights, others to demolished phones. I’m hooked on series and can’t imagine life without Netflix. In summer, you’ll find me soaking up the sun by the lake or at a music festival.
