Philips Hue: You will soon be able to use multiple bridges in your account
Hue fans have been waiting a long time for this: in 2024, it will be possible to use several Bridges in one account of the Philips Hue smart home ecosystem.
If you are reaching the capacity limit of your bridge with many Hue lights and accessories, Philips Hue has good news for you: It will still be possible to add more Hue Bridges to your account in 2024. A bridge is used to control your Hue smart home devices - it can manage up to around 50. If you live in a large household and use a lot of lights, switches, sensors and, more recently, security cameras, you may well reach this limit.
At present, only one Bridge can be used per account. A new account is required for an additional bridge, which makes access to the connected lights and Hue routines inconvenient and not very suitable for everyday use.
As the range for lighting and monitoring purposes continues to expand, sooner or later more and more users will reach the capacity limits of their Bridge. The update is therefore overdue.
Possible fixed room allocation to the bridges
However, a second Bridge does not appear to simply double the device capacity: Philips Hue states on the website that you can assign the Bridges to flats or living areas. This could mean that you would have to tidy up your system and permanently assign different rooms to a bridge. However, the exact implementation of the Bridge update remains to be seen. According to Hue, it will be rolled out "later in the year".
