PlayStation Portal will cost 220 euros
Sony's new handheld for streaming PS5 games has an official name: PlayStation Portal or PlayStation Portal Remote Player. Cost: 219.99 euros.
Sony has announced the name and price of its portable streaming console in a blog article. PlayStation Portal will cost 219.99 euros in Europe. On the other side of the Atlantic, it will cost 199.99 US dollars. According to rumours, Sony's new handheld will be released in November. Whether this is true remains to be seen - the company is keeping interested parties in the dark.
Sony officially announced the handheld back in May. The special thing about Portal is that it is basically an extension of the PlayStation 5 and you can't install any games on it. The upcoming cloud streaming for PS5 games via PS Plus Premium membership will also not work with it. Only streaming from your own PS5 is possible. If the TV is occupied with the PS5, you should be able to game with Portal in future. You will need a stable Wi-Fi connection with at least 5 megabits of bandwidth. For a better gaming experience, at least 15 megabits per second are required.

Sony's PlayStation Portal is reminiscent of a standard PS5 controller with an LCD display. This is 8 inches in size and has a 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. As with the DualSense controller, adaptive triggers and haptic feedback are on board. What is missing is Bluetooth - wireless audio transmission is only possible with the proprietary PlayStation Link standard. However, this should offer lossless audio transmission and low latency. A 3.5 mm jack socket is included for wired headphones.
More information will soon be available from Sony in further instalments. There is still no information on weight, battery capacity or how long it can be used for gaming. And the release date, which will definitely follow later this year.

Sony is also introducing two new headphones: the Pulse Elite wireless headset and the Pulse Explore earbuds. Both will support Bluetooth and PlayStation Link and come with a USB adapter for third-party devices. They can even be connected to a Bluetooth device and one with PlayStation Link at the same time. Sony will sell the headset for 219.99 euros and the earbuds for 149.99 euros. In addition to lossless sound, they will also offer AI-enhanced noise cancellation.
