PS5 gets VRR: Sony rolls out the feature this week

What the console competition from Microsoft already has is finally coming to Sony's Playstation 5: Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support. A corresponding update will be distributed starting this week.
Sony announces it will start rolling out its VRR feature for Playstation 5 this week. The update brings what is already present on Microsoft's Xbox Series X/S and known as Adaptive Sync on PCs (AMD FreeSync and Nvidia G-Sync). Hideaki Nishino, Senior Vice President of Platform Experience at Sony Interactive Entertainment, comments on this in a blog post as follows:
Auf HDMI 2.1 VRR-kompatiblen Fernsehern und PC-Monitoren synchronisiert VRR dynamisch die Bildwiederholfrequenz des Displays mit der grafischen Ausgabe der PS5-Konsole.
He says this improves the performance of PS5 games by minimizing or eliminating visual artifacts. For example, frame pacing issues or screen tearing.

For now, VRR support will only be available for a few games. However, as seen in the screenshot of the PS5 settings, there is also a mode for games that are not officially supported. However, Sony warns:
Die Ergebnisse können je nach verwendetem Fernsehgerät, dem gespielten Spiel und dem für ein bestimmtes Spiel ausgewählten visuellen Modus (falls mehrere Modi unterstützt werden) variieren.
The first games, which should receive official VRR support in the coming weeks, are the following:
- "Astro's Playroom"
- "Call of Duty: Vanguard"
- "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War"
- "Destiny 2"
- "Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition"
- "Dirt 5"
- "Godfall"
- "Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered"
- "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales"
- "Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart"
- "Resident Evil Village"
- "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands
- "Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege"
- "Tribes of Midgard"
