Red Magic 8 Pro: The gaming smartphone has the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 on board
With the Red Magic 8 Pro, Nubia is launching a new gaming smartphone. It will be one of the first smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.
Nubia will unveil the new Red Magic 8 Pro on 16. January 2023 and comes with a few new features compared to the Red Magic 7 Pro, which gaming colleague Domi tested. For one, the manufacturer is newly installing the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was presented in November. This makes it one of the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm's top-of-the-line SoC for 2023, and Nubia is also increasing the battery size from 5000 mAh on the 7S Pro to 6000 mAh on the 8 Pro.
The necessary coolness is also taken care of. Nubia has built in a vapour chamber cooling system with ten layers. Further data has not yet been officially confirmed by the manufacturer. However, the price comparison site Kimovil already gives further details on the equipment: For example, the housing is made of aluminium and has sensor shoulder buttons on one side. At 228 grams, it would be seven grams lighter than the Red Magic 7 Pro. The phone would be available with either 8 and 128 or 12 and 256 gigabytes of memory.

The display of the Red Magic 8 Pro has a diagonal of 6.8 inches. This would make it the same size as its predecessor. On the other hand, it is said to have a slightly better resolution of 2480 × 1116 pixels. The refresh rate still reaches up to 120 hertz.
While the focus is on gaming, you won't miss out on photography either. A triple camera can be seen in the pictures. According to Kimovil, it is a 50-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8-megapixel macro camera. In addition, the smartphone has a 16-megapixel front camera, which - as with the predecessor - is hidden behind the display panel below the actual screen.

The Red Magic 8 Pro is expected to be available worldwide from February 2023. No prices have been announced yet. In China, the smartphone is available from 4000 yuan. That is the equivalent of 534 Swiss francs or 540 euros.
