The bike nerds from "Gran Fondo Cycling Magazine" declare this tyre to be the almost perfect gravel tyre
Gravel tyres live somewhere between road bike tyres and mountain bike rollers. Countless dimensions, profiles and rubber compounds make choosing the right tyre a complicated matter. The "Gran Fondo Cycling Magazine" tested 20 models from the most important manufacturers. Conclusion: It remains complex.
The German "Gran Fondo Cycling Magazine" tested no fewer than 20 tyres from a total of nine manufacturers and published a test report at the end of the year. Factors such as traction, braking distance, rolling resistance and puncture protection played an important role. In the end, the magazine's testers came to the following conclusion:
"Gravel tyres are as versatile as the requirement profiles themselves, and this is also evident in the comparison test. But what makes the choice difficult also makes it possible to find the perfect tyre for all conditions. And so there is no clear winner, not the best tyre for everything or the fastest tyre under all circumstances. However, the division into different categories makes it possible to compare the models and find the perfect tyres."
Schwalbe G-One R: the carefree all-rounder
Among other things, the "Gran Fondo Cycling Magazine" also tested the tyre of my choice, the "G-One R" from Schwalbe. And came to the conclusion that this tyre, with its high puncture protection and efficiency, outperforms all other models in the "Allround" category. Here you can find the test report.
The conclusion to this tyre reads: "All-round is almost too boring for the G-One R, as it outshines all tyres in this category thanks to its high efficiency. However, traction is not sacrificed for this; here too, the R is at the top of its game. The result is a tyre that, as the ultimate all-rounder in the test field, even trumps the in-house G-One Allround and is perhaps the perfect gravel tyre of all."
I've been riding with Schwalbe's "G-One R" for nine months now and can only agree with this conclusion:
