Metaverse, cryptowallet, and NFT: HTC advertises the Desire 22 Pro with quite a few buzzwords - and finally delivers a mid-range smartphone to Europe again that is also supposed to work well with the VR glasses Flow.
The HTC Desire 22 Pro is a small return. After selling most of its smartphone division to Google in 2017, the Taiwanese company only released a few smartphones - and almost only on the domestic market. That is changing now, the Desire 22 Pro is also released in Europe.
After selling the smartphone division, HTC has concentrated on hardware and software for virtual realities. It is fitting that the Desire 22 Pro should be very well suited to work with the latest in-house VR goggles, Vive Flow. Nothing more than the smartphone is needed to access virtual worlds, it says. The in-house metaverse "Viverse" can even be experienced on the smartphone display without special glasses.
A cryptowallet and support for NFTs are also preinstalled - at least in Taiwan. Both could be installed later as an app on any smartphone.
The HTC Desire 22 Pro remains an average mid-range smartphone beyond the advertising.
Its 6.6-inch touchscreen features a liquid crystal display with a refresh rate of 120 hertz and a resolution of 2412×1080 pixels. The installed Snapdragon 695 5G as a mid-range chipset makes it clear that top hardware is probably no longer necessary for VR applications. In addition, there are eight gigabytes of working memory and 128 gigabytes of internal storage.
There are three cameras on the back of the Desire 22 Pro. The main camera with a resolution of 64 megapixels, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5-megapixel camera that should be responsible for depth of field. The front camera takes selfies with 32 megapixels.
The Desire 22 Pro's battery has a capacity of 4520 mAh and charges with up to 18 watts. This is still considered fast charging, but it is slow compared to the now common standards. However, the smartphone still supports wireless and reverse charging - i.e. it can be charged wirelessly and in turn charge other devices. The smartphone is waterproof according to IP67 and has Android 12 on board ex-works.
The Desire 22 Pro costs 459 Euros in HTC's EU store. It is supposed to be available in Germany starting in August. HTC did not give any information about Switzerland yet.
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
