The iPhone SE 2 is a better iPhone 8

The long-awaited successor to the iPhone SE is here. The new version looks like the iPhone 8, but is better.
As with the first iPhone SE, Apple is using its older devices for the second generation. While the first SE was the iPhone 5S, which was reissued with improved hardware, the iPhone SE 2 looks confusingly similar to the iPhone 8, but is better equipped and cheaper.
More power and new camera functions
The iPhone 8 and iPhone SE 2 are identical to the nearest gram and millimetre on the data sheet. Apple has replaced the chipset, resulting in further changes to the features, and added portrait mode to the camera software.
This means that the iPhone SE 2 has an aluminium casing that is waterproof to IP67. The touchscreen is a 4.7-inch Retina HD display with a resolution of 1334×750 pixels. When I think back to the iPhone 8, True Tone was an impressive innovation at the time and has since become a familiar standard for iPhones. Haptic Touch is now used instead of 3D Touch. This means that the length of the pressure and no longer the strength is decisive for the reaction of the touchscreen.

A single camera with a resolution of twelve megapixels is located on the back. The front camera takes selfies with seven megapixels. Instead of Auto HDR, however, the cameras now use Smart HDR - as Apple calls its advanced camera function, which creates an image with optimum contrast settings and dynamic range from multiple shots. Both have now also learnt portrait mode, including lighting functions, which was reserved for the iPhone 8 Plus at the time. Another new feature is Quicktake Video - you no longer need to leave the photo function to record a video - and the recording of stereo sound for videos.
The A13 Bionic chipset, which is also found in all variants of the iPhone 11, is now at work under the bonnet. It ensures that the iPhone SE 2 now supports WiFi6 and Gigabit-class LTE instead of WiFi5 and LTE Advanced. According to Apple, the battery life should be identical to that of the iPhone 8. And instead of Face ID facial recognition, the fingerprint sensor with TouchID is used.
The internal memory is either 64, 128 or 256 gigabytes in size and you can choose between black, white and red for the colours.

When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
