Fans' expectations are high. After all, all the once-rare classics will be available on Disney+. Added to that is almost all of the content from Disney's Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic brands.

That's not all.

Let's take a look at what the European launch will actually look like.

"The Mandalorian" and "Clone Wars" in weekly format

According to the press release, the majority of Disney+ originals - films and series produced by Disney itself - will be available for launch on 24 March. In the case of series, however, only the first episodes , followed by another episode on Friday 27 March. A new episode will then be added every Friday.

"The Mandalorian" and the final season of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" are exceptions:

The Mandalorian

  • The first two episodes will be available for launch on 24 March.
  • The third episode will follow on Friday 27 March.
  • A new episode will then follow every Friday.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

  • The first two episodes will be available for launch on 24 March.
  • From 27 March, two episodes a week will follow every Friday.
  • From 17 April, there will be one new episode a week - at the same time as the US broadcast.

New episodes yes, but with a delay

An initial overview shows that the European offering is almost the same as in the US. Only the most recent films are available there slightly faster than in Europe - but the same applies to other video-on-demand services such as Google Play or AppleTV.

For example, "Frozen 2" is not yet included in Disney's animation portfolio, "Toy Story 4" in Pixar's and "Captain Marvel" and "Avenger's Endgame" in Marvel's. The three 'Iron Man' solo films are not available in Europe either. By contrast, the "Star Wars" portfolio is complete and even available in UHD resolution and Dolby Vision quality - classic trilogy included.

« Star Wars» is almost complete. The only thing missing is the Christmas special. Shame.

The only thing missing is "The Rise of Skywalker". But the American version always troubleshoots. In Europe, the film is supposed to be available in summer 2020, in the US a few weeks earlier.

By the way: if you're still taking out an annual subscription before launch, still take advantage of the pre-order discount. The first year of Disney+ will cost you 84.90 francs instead of 99 francs.

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
