It should have been a shake-up in power. In a positive sense. But the big comeback of the original "Star Wars: Battlefront" series ended in disaster. Now stolen mods are also causing displeasure.

Perhaps developer Aspyr was still celebrating the successful launch of the remastered "Tomb Raider" original from 1996 when, last Thursday of the remastered "Tomb Raider" original from 1996, when the comm links of the responsible server technicians flashed alarmingly last Thursday.

The reason: 9,232 players were trying to achieve victory on iconic battlefields from "Star Wars: Battlefront", which was first released in 2004 by developer Pandemic Studios. However, only three servers with 64 players each were functioning. As a result, 9,040 battle-ready gamers were stuck in the dark for hours.

And that's not the only problem.

Chronicles of a clusterfuck

In the meantime, the servers seem to be working, albeit rather poorly. Aspyr confirms this in an official support update. According to the update, "errors in the network infrastructure" lead to high ping values, matchmaking errors and crashes, and hundreds of servers are still missing in the browser. According to the developers, they are working tirelessly to fix the problems and increase network stability.

The new old game is still not out of the Sarlacc pit. As of today, only 19 per cent of the almost 5,500 user reviews are positive. The Community is still complaining about the broken netcode, numerous bugs, missing or damaged original content such as cutscenes, sound effects and textures, as well as an almost unplayable multiplayer mode in which enemy troops buzz around or fly through your own fire.

In addition, "Star Wars: Battlefront" hardly looks any better than the original, even though the file size of the game has increased tenfold - from the original 7.3 gigabytes to 72.58 gigabytes. Hundreds of users like MightyMeds are disappointed in the Steam reviews:

It hardly looks any better. I really can't tell what's different. The file size is gigantic considering they only added two characters and a few maps and probably used the world's worst AI upscaling technology since your mum discovered the magic tool in Photoshop.

Admittedly: The fact that the Imperial stormtroopers are floating uncontrollably through the air in this screenshot is probably intentional on the part of Jedi Luke Skywalker.

The latest blaster shot comes from modders who claim developer Aspyr used their mods without consent. This is despite Aspyr telling IGN that the Classic Collection contains "no code or content that comes from uncited sources." Modder iamashaymin contradicts this in an X post. Apparently, images published on Reddit from the Playstation 5 version of the game show the Sith Asajj Ventress, which comes from a mod by iamashaymin.

Currently, "Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection" costs 38.96 francs in the Steam Shop.

Have you played the game yet? What was your experience with the seemingly broken game? Let us know in the comments.

I'm an outdoorsy guy and enjoy sports that push me to the limit – now that’s what I call comfort zone! But I'm also about curling up in an armchair with books about ugly intrigue and sinister kingkillers. Being an avid cinema-goer, I’ve been known to rave about film scores for hours on end. I’ve always wanted to say: «I am Groot.»
