The next three "Call of Duty" will also appear for the Playstation
Despite the planned takeover of Activision by Microsoft, the next three "Call of Duty" parts are to be released for the Playstation.
The announcement that Activision Blizzard is being sold to Microsoft for 68.7 billion must have shocked Playstation fans. After Bethesda, it is the next big publisher that will be managed under the Xbox label in the future. The fear that this will mean that numerous games will only appear exclusively for PC and Xbox is hovering over Playstation gamers like the sword of Damocles. Now there is a first all-clear.
As the industry portal Bloomberg reports, the next three Call of Duty games will continue to be released for Sony's console. A corresponding deal had already been agreed before the takeover news. This includes this year's war game in the "Modern Warfare" setting, which is being developed by Infinity Ward. The next part will follow from Treyarch in 2023. Both studios belong to Activision. A new spin-off of the successful free-to-play game "Warzone" is also part of the deal.
The future beyond that is uncertain
This would confirm Phil Spencer's statement from last week. The Xbox boss said on Twitter that Microsoft would honor existing agreements and that they wanted to keep "Call of Duty" on the PlayStation. At least for now. According to Bloomberg, it's possible that further spin-offs won't be released on an annual basis and won't be on the PlayStation either.
