These are the highlights of the Gamescom Opening Night Live
At the "Gamescom Opening Night Live", trailers were once again fired from all cylinders. I have summarised the highlights for you here.
Think summer is hot? If you take a look at the games that will be released over the next few months, autumn and the cold season promise to be hot too. In the two-hour Opening Night Live, host and video game journalist Geoff Keighley presented various trailers. You can watch the whole show in the following video. If that's too much for you, you can simply scroll through the highlights.
"Starfield"
The new live action trailer for "Starfield" really gets you in the mood for the game. After years of waiting, the game is now effectively just around the corner: Early Access starts next week and at the beginning of September, it's off into space for everyone.
Release date: 6 September 2023
Where: PC, Xbox Series X/S
"Little Nightmares III"
"Little Nightmares III" is a fact. Two new characters can be seen in the reveal trailer for the horror adventure game. In typical sidescroller style, the game takes you from left to right through creepy locations. You can game the game alone or in 2-player co-op locally or online.
Release date: Sometime in 2024
Where: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One
"Rebel Moon"
Director Zack Snyder took the opportunity to promote his new film on Opening Night. The director's signature style is clearly recognisable in the new teaser trailer. In terms of the story, the film doesn't seem to tell anything that hasn't been told a hundred times before. But that doesn't have to be a bad thing. The teaser trailer certainly promises popcorn entertainment. The first of two parts will be released on Netflix on 22 December.
A game in the "Rebel Moon" universe is also in the works, set after the films. It is not yet known exactly when this will be released.
"Assassin's Creed Mirage"
Back to the roots - that's what the latest "Assassin's Creed Mirage" wants. The Gamescom trailer actually takes me back to 2007, when the first game in the series was released. The latest spin-off is set in Baghdad in the 9th century. You play Basim, who assassinates masked figures in typical Assassin's Creed style. Looks nice, but will probably suffer from the old-fashioned Ubisoft formula.
Release date: 5 October 2023
Where: PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X
"Tekken 8"
The Gamescom presentation will focus on the new Arcade Quest mode. Here you create an avatar and fight your way through classic arcades with Tekken. How exactly does it work? No idea. When the character Kuma catches a fish in the trailer, it transforms into a robot fish rocket and shoots away, I lost it.

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III"
The new gameplay trailer shows part of the first level of "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III". You storm a prison fortress from a submarine. The level is cinematically staged and should be fun for fans of the series. "Modern Warfare 3" is the first "Call of Duty" that is a direct sequel.
Release date: 10 November 2023
Where: PC, Xbox Series X/S, PS5
"Nightingale"
The upcoming survival MMO "Nightingale" has a new trailer. The game developed by Inflexion Games is set in an open fantasy world in Victorian style. The enemies certainly look really good and imaginative.
Early Access from 22 February 2024
Where: PC
"Lords of the Fallen"
In the new story trailer, you'll see lots of nasty monsters. You play a dark crusader shrouded in legend. Your mission: overthrow the demon god Adyr. The souls-like dark fantasy role-playing game is coming soon.

"Sonic Superstars"
The hedgehog is back. Along for the ride are his well-known friends Tails, Knuckles and Amy Rose. You can play the fast-paced platformer with up to four people. It makes me feel like I'm back in my childhood bedroom - but less pixelated, of course.
Release date: 17 October 2023

"Under the Waves"
Under the Waves is a narrative adventure game from Parallel Studio. You dive into a mysterious underwater world. It explores topics such as grief and the impact of humanity on nature. A must-play for me.

"Expeditions: A Mud Runner's Experience"
Exploring unexplored areas on scientific expeditions? One of my boyhood dreams. That's exactly what you do in the new game from the developers of "MudRunner" and "SnowRunner". As with its predecessors, the gameplay focus is on physics-based off-road exploration.

"Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty"
The story expansion for "Cyberpunk 2077" is about to be released. You will explore a new district in "Phantom Liberty". But that's not all that's new: the AI has been improved, there are new skills and existing ones have been revised or a new skill tree has been added.
Release date: 26 September 2023
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S
"Mortal Kombat 1"
The latest instalment of the 90s beat-em-up is intended to be both a new beginning and a return to its roots. The absurd finishers that can be seen in the latest trailer are evidence of the latter. Otherwise, there are also a few scraps of Storz to be seen.
Release date: 14 September 2023
Where: PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch
"Alan Wake II"
The latest trailer for the Remedy game shows a balanced mix of animation and live action sequences. "Alan Wake II" is set more than ten years after the events of its predecessor. That's how long the protagonist has been trapped in the dark place. This is reminiscent of a nightmarish New York City. After a long wait, the adventure continues in October.
