Will this robot really get my grill clean?

Grill and chill? Well, not before you’ve cleaned the barbecue. Nobody enjoys scrubbing and scouring every nook and cranny of the grate. But it has to be done – and properly so, otherwise the grill grate’s still dirty and your next BBQ will be unhygienic.

No matter how good your cleaning technique, if you’re using a grill brush, it’s always a tedious and dirty job – especially if your brush is worse than expected, as happened to Martin Jungfer.

However, there’s a gadget that promises to not only clean the grate, but to do it without needing your help. The Grillbot – the little brother of the vacuum cleaner robot – automatically cleans the grill. At the touch of a button.

Is the robot better than a grill brush?

Does this invention sound too good to be true? I’m afraid so. When I tried it out, the Grillbot wasn’t impressive at all, as you can see in the video. For English subtitles, click the gear icon, «Subtitles/CC» and «Auto-translate». And it seems the innovation has failed in other respects, too.

After all, during our video production, the supplier took the Grillbot out of our range. Damage control? Maybe. In any case, you can’t buy it in our shop anymore. Luckily so, as this version of the Grillbot’s not worth the roughly 100 francs it costs.
