Panos Panay, the Chief Product Officer for Windows + Devices at Microsoft, has presented the new features in a blog post. The support for Android apps, which was already announced with the presentation of Windows 11, is only available to a limited extent so far.
Android apps only in the USA for the time being
More than 1000 apps and games from the Amazon App Store will now be available in the Microsoft Store of Windows 11. For the time being, however, only in the USA. Over the course of the year, the range of Android apps is expected to increase and become available in other countries.
Taskbar improved
Microsoft has primarily focused on simplifying the use of the taskbar. In Windows 11, you will be able to mute or turn on your microphone for all programs via the taskbar - without having to go to the window with the video call. You can now split your screen for teams directly via the taskbar icon when programs are open.
The weather display moves permanently to the left edge of the taskbar. This is where the widget icon used to be. If you connect a second monitor, Windows 11 now also displays the time in its taskbar.
Notepad and Media Player in the new design
You can download Notepad and Media Player from the Microsoft Store in the new design, which has been adapted to Windows 11. Among other things, Notepad has been given a dark mode and redesigned menus, which should make it easier to find the desired actions. New features include multi-level undo, which allows more actions to be undone than before, colored emojis and a revamped "find and replace" function.
The media player is supposed to show all the content from the music and video folders on your computer. You can also tell it where to find more media content. Microsoft is giving it new keyboard shortcuts for faster operation.
Microsoft further announces that it will continuously release new features for Windows 11 in smaller updates. For Windows 10, the company collected them and released them only twice a year in large packages.
