Withings BeamO measures fever, heart rate and respiration

Withings calls its new health gadget a "multiscope". The BeamO is a digital clinical thermometer, but has many additional functions.

The French manufacturer promises a health check in one minute. With measurements that would normally have to be taken at the GP's surgery. This can be very helpful, especially for telemedicine and initial clarifications.

The BeamO is held to the temple or chest area and then takes various measurements at the touch of a button.

Body temperature: Precise measurement at the temporal artery without direct contact.

Blood oxygen content: Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is measured, the efficiency of the respiratory system can be determined.

Electrocardiogram: The ECG should be medically accurate and thus recognise atrial fibrillation and cardiac arrhythmia. The resting heart rate is also measured.

Stethoscope: Heart and lung sounds are recorded, which can then be shared with the doctor.

App as a health centre

The most important measurement results are displayed directly on a small screen, but can also be synchronised and saved with the Withings app. This allows you to track your own health data over a longer period of time.

The manufacturer is expanding the app - for the BeamO, but also for other health gadgets such as smartwatches or bathroom scales. You can upload details of medications, create reminders to take them and log side effects. Health data can also be easily shared with doctors. Individual profiles can be created so that different Family members can use the devices.

The BeamO is due to be launched on the market in June 2024, but CE approval is still pending. It will be available for 250 euros. The Swiss price has not yet been finalised, but is likely to be in a similar range. The technology trade fair CES has already honoured the gadget with an Innovation Award.
