Xiaomi 12 unveiled: Pro version with larger display and more megapixels
Xiaomi has unveiled its next top smartphone. The Xiaomi 12 is released in three variants - but only in China for now.
The Xiaomi 12 will also come to Europe. However, it is still unclear when and which variants will be available. For its Chinese home market, the manufacturer has also introduced a larger Pro version with a better camera system and an X variant with a slower processor.
Xiaomi 12: The next top smartphone
The Xiaomi 12 features a 6.28-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2400×1080 pixels. The refresh rate goes up to 120 hertz and the brightness turns out to be high at 1100 nits. Inside, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers the smartphone. It is supported by eight or twelve gigabytes of working memory. The internal memory is 128 or 256 gigabytes.
The battery has a capacity of 4500 mAh. The Xiaomi 12 charges with up to 67 watts via cable and up to 50 watts wirelessly. Other devices charge the smartphone via "Reverse Charge" with up to 10 watts.
According to the manufacturer, it has completely overhauled its camera system over the past two years and promises even faster and more stable shots. On the back of the Xiaomi 12 is a three-camera elevation. The main camera with a Sony IMX766 image sensor has a resolution of 50 megapixels. There is also an ultra-wide angle camera with a 123-degree viewing angle and 13 megapixels, and a macro camera with 4 megapixels. The front camera takes selfies at 32 megapixels.
The Xiaomi 12 runs Android 12, equipped with Xiaomi's MIUI 13 user interface. In China without the Google services, but in Europe Xiaomi installs them on its devices.
The Xiaomi 12 costs 3699 yuan in China. Bluntly converted, that's about 513 euros or 532 francs.
Xiaomi 12 Pro: Bigger display, more resolution
At 6.73 inches, the Xiaomi 12 Pro not only has a bigger touchscreen, but also a better one. At least, the data of the AMOLED display turns out better in some places. Its resolution is 3200×1440 pixels and brightness is 1500 nits. The refresh rate automatically adjusts between 1 and 120 hertz.
On the Xiaomi 12 Pro, there are also three cameras on the back. However, they all have a resolution of 50 megapixels. The Sony IMX707, as the sensor of the main camera, together with the in-house night mode algorithm, is supposed to ensure particularly good pictures in dark lighting conditions. The two other cameras deliver pictures with a viewing angle of 115 degrees or a 2x optical magnification.
Another difference: The battery has a minimally larger capacity of 4600 mAh and charges with up to 120 watts. As a larger smartphone, the Xiaomi 12 Pro also weighs more: 205 grams and thus 25 grams more than the Xiaomi 12. For the larger screen and the better cameras, Xiaomi charges a surcharge of 1000 yuan in China - the equivalent of about 139 euros or 144 francs.
Xiaomi 12X: cheaper thanks to slower processor
The Xiaomi 12X is almost completely similar to the Xiaomi 12. The only difference: Instead of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, the manufacturer installs the cheaper Snapdragon 870 with less performance. The smartphone is still far from a lame pickle with it. In China, there is a price reduction of 500 yuan or the equivalent of about 70 Euros or 72 Swiss francs.
When I was but a young student, I'd sit in my friend's living room with all my classmates and play on his SuperNES. Since then I've had the opportunity to test out all the newest technology for you. I've done reviews at Curved, Computer Bild and Netzwelt, and have now arrived at Galaxus.de.
