Youtube app Vanced is discontinued
The YouTube app Vanced may soon stop offering its services for legal reasons. The already installed version should only continue to run for a short time.
The unofficial Youtube app Vanced is being discontinued. This was announced by the developers on Twitter. Vanced is an app for Android smartphones that allows users to consume content from the YouTube video platform without having to watch ads. The recently abolished counter of dislikes can also be reactivated via the app.
The app will no longer be continued for legal reasons, the team further confirmed in a Telegram message. To The Verge, the operators of Vanced also explained that they had received a cease-and-desist letter from Google. In it, the search giant demanded that they remove any references to Youtube, change the logo and delete links to Youtube products.
Days are numbered
It is still unclear when the exact end date of the service will be. The developers of Vanced said in the Telegram message that the current version of the app should continue to run for some time. However, the app download links on the Vanced homepage have already been removed.
In addition to ad-free playback of YouTube videos, Vanced allows users to run videos in the background, among other things. Thus, the free Android app covers functions of Google's paid service Youtube Premium. A fact that is likely to be the basis for Google's legal steps.
