Product details
Compact dimensions and a powerful low-frequency foundation - the high-performance 15" woofer, impressive 1500 watts of power amplifier power and, last but not least, the efficient 24-bit controlling create
a bass experience that has so far been more expected from large 18" subwoofers. Thus, the Sonar 115 D Sub turns a well-behaved song into a thrilling rock anthem and tame people into a dancing audience. A subwoofer has never been more stress-free to use: Simply select the appropriate preset via the easy-to-read display and enjoy perfect plug'n'play sound. In addition, Sonar 115 D Sub provides stereo inputs and outputs for friends of a space-saving 2.1 subwoofer/satellite system.
An extraordinary highlight is the Cardioid function, which provides a drastic volume reduction behind the speaker when two Sonar 115 D Sub are used. This professional feature also requires no further adjustment work and can thus be used by anyone without complicated calculations. To increase the sound pressure in the bass range, a second Sonar 115 Sub D can be used. In the classic fullstack setup (pictured left) with two front-firing subs, an "all-around" 3 dB increase in sound pressure is achieved. But what makes the Sonar 115 Sub D special are its cardioid capabilities. Two special presets make a cardioid setup (right figure), in which the lower bass radiates to the rear, possible without complex calculation and delay correction.
For this, the lower Sonar bass is directed to the rear and the preset "Cardioid Rear" is selected, and the upper bass radiates to the front with preset "Cardioid Front". Now both basses play perfectly together without having to make any further adjustments. The Cardioid principle is based on the cancellation of frequencies radiated to the rear. While medium and high frequencies can be radiated directionally, low frequencies spread out spherically. This often leads to an unpleasant excess of low frequencies on and behind the stage. It is also becoming increasingly common for event organizers to specify exact sound distribution requirements, e.g. for marquees and downtown stages. The Sonar 115 SUB D meets all the requirements, both mechanically and acoustically, for quickly and easily implementing effective cardioid setups, with up to 30 dB reduction of the low bass radiated to the rear. This not only makes stage performance much more relaxed, it also results in better sound, as microphone pickups are no longer affected by low frequencies.
