PCIe 5.0 performance was inconsistent and slower than PCIe 4.0 performance
Expensive compared to the low-cost PCIe 4.0 competition
The 990 EVO from Samsung can be operated with the PCIe 5.0 standard, but is limited to two lanes (x2) and strictly speaking behaves like a PCIe 4.0 SSD. A somewhat expensive and not particularly fast PCIe 4.0 SSD at that.

Interesting technology
rather slow
Samsung's first PCIe 5.0 SSD is only a half SSD, in 4.0 slots it is just as fast as in 5.0 slots. As a typical Evo SSD, it is significantly slower than the Pro series, but also cheaper.
It is strange that it is much faster in a test than Samsung claims: Samsung promises around 5 GByte/s for sequential reading, which we also achieved with one worker and a query depth of 32...
