Product details
The new addition to the Alpha 7 family from Sony is a real all-rounder. The back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS full-frame sensor with 24.2 megapixels has been specially redesigned for the camera and the image processor has been further developed. With ISO 100 to 51,200, the α7 III covers an extremely wide sensitivity range. The sensor has a high dynamic range of 15 f-stops. The autofocus system can compete with the best on the market. The 693 phase autofocus points together with 425 contrast autofocus points cover around 93 per cent of the sensor surface. The autofocus also works quickly and reliably with eye detection. Continuous shooting is possible at up to ten frames per second with a mechanical shutter - if desired, completely silent with continuous focus tracking.5-axis image stabilisation, high-resolution 4K video recording and a long battery life of 710 shots round off the specifications. The joystick familiar from the α7 III and two SD card slots ensure greater freedom of operation. The back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS image sensor with 24.2 megapixels plus front-end LSI stand for ultra-high image quality and speed. Sony has effectively doubled the readout speed of the image sensor. Thanks to the updated BIONZ X processor, the processing speed of the images has also increased by 1.8 times compared to the α7 II. An ISO range of 100 - 51,200 (expandable to ISO 50 - 204,800 for photos), a dynamic range of 15 f-stops and significantly improved skin tones and more true-to-life colours speak for themselves. 14-bit RAW is no problem for the α7 III, even with silent continuous shooting. The 5-axis image stabiliser compensates for up to 5.0. The new α7 III is able to capture up to ten images per second at full resolution with continuous autofocus on the memory card. In total, the buffer is sufficient for up to 177 standard JPEG images, 89 compressed RAW images or 40 uncompressed RAW images.

Overall ratingVery good90/100

Very good90/100

Compared to its predecessors, the Sony Alpha 7 III has improved its AF, continuous shooting speed and video function. It has very good features, although the viewfinder and monitor resolutions are better in higher-priced Sony models. Time-lapse, double exposure or raw converter are missing...
Very good100/100

... The combination of outstanding autofocus and strong image quality makes the Sony Alpha 7 III a convincing full-frame all-rounder. The standard zoom is not very fast, but affordable for under 300 euros. The focal length range covers most motifs. Again, look out for kit offers at your local dealer.
