The growing market of 360° videos, VR gaming and mixed-reality content has so far required a very expensive Ambisonics microphone, a separate recorder device and a computer for encoding the audio files in order to record 360° audio. The Zoom H3-VR combines all of this in a single device and has an Ambisonic microphone, an integrated recorder and the necessary decoder. The Ambisonic microphone with 4 microphone capsules captures a precise 360° recording with a resolution of 24bit/96kHz. The integrated decoder enables the direct export of Ambisonic B-format recordings without the help of a computer. The H3-VR also offers the possibility to create conventional stereo recordings or binaural 3D stereo recordings. These can be used to add 3D audio to 2D productions. The principle of binaural 3D stereo recordings creates a natural, spatial auditory impression when the recordings are listened to via headphones. In addition to the option of using the H3-VR for 360° live streams, the free downloadable Zoom Ambisonics player software makes it possible to turn Ambisonic recordings into a 5.1ch surround file - perfect for film productions.
