Can I use my old LT 5300 add-on cassettes with this model, or is there a new model where these cassettes can still be used?

No, the LT-5300 does not fit this model. The LT-5300 fits the following models: HL-5350DN, HL-5370DW, HL-5380DN, DCP-8070D, DCP-8080DN, MFC-8370DN, MFC-8380DN, MFC-8880DN, MFC-8890DW. These are all nicely older (>5 years) and hardly available "new" any more. That leaves only Occ.
