Question about Ryzen Threadripper 3960X - 218678

Hello I am very interested in the AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960X for assembling a workstation. On https://www.userbenchmark.com/PCBuilder/Custom/S166420-M969111.7730.798635.102222vsS67449-M969111.842105?tab=HDD I tried to put together something suitable for the 3960X with the boards and RAMs available at digitec. However, it is very difficult because some components do not work together. Does anyone know of a reliable site where you can put together PC components so that they also work together? Just knowing the specifications of the individual components is probably not enough.

Hello all together

A lot of good tips and advice have been given that help me a lot. Many thanks to all of you.
The tip with the MB manufacturer's compatibility list regarding RAM is a good idea, as is the tip with the configurator. For the latter, I went to Alternate.ch, which also has a PC configurator. I used it to put everything together. At the end, for example, it gave me a hint when I selected a DDR4-3600 instead of a DDR-3200.
When I went to Alternate.de and then to Alternate.ch, I was astonished to find that the online shop has almost all components in stock, such as an Intel Core i9-10940X (one of the counterparts to the AMD Threadripper). Digitec.ch often just says: delivery date unknown.
I have now put together 3 configurations with an AMD 3960X, 3950X and Intel 10940X. Now I just have to decide with the help of the answers written here.

Thank you & greetings

Attention! Only unbuffered ECC Ram bars really work.

Hoi,
I have a very similar configuration.
-Asus ROG ZENITH II EXTREME
-AMD 3960X
-G.SKILL Trident Z DDR4 3200 C14 @ 3600CL14
-1080Ti
-Sabrent 1TB pcie 4.0
-Power supply Evga 1200W Titanium

Runs 1A.

With AMD, good RAM is important. Advantage if it is on the QVL list of the mainboard, otherwise it may not work. RAM OC is more of a gimmick for me ;)
Cooling all fit from the TR4 socket. The air coolers are rather poor (e.g. be quiet! Dark Rock Pro TR4 (16.28cm)). The 2 RAM slots closest to the socket may be covered. You can certainly see that in the FactSheets.
I have a custom cooling system with a Bykski A-RYZEN-TECH.

With the power supply it is important that you have at least 2 x 8-pin CPU. In addition, a 6-pin can be connected to the Zenith.

Hello

Try: pcpartpicker.com/
It's actually designed more for subsequent direct purchase in the USA, but only components that are also compatible are displayed there.

Unfortunately, even the website cannot know whether the cooler is sufficiently strong or whether the RAM sticks are actually declared as 100% working by the mainboard manufacturer, this requires some manual work - e.g. with the help of the support page of the respective mainboard under "Memory QVL (Qualified Vendor List)" or similar. (somehow all RAM do work and tuning is only necessary for safe maximum performance).

If fine-tuning is too time-consuming or complicated for you, there are also forums that only deal with this. On Reddit, for example, r/buildapc ( www.reddit.com/r/buildapc/ ) or sometimes on digitec itself.

About your link: The "baseline" on the left would already work like that, the Quadro K4000 is just horribly old and bad. On the right, however, the wrong motherboard has already been selected for the "alternative" - it must be a TRX4 (or 40) for the 3960X.

Hello, it's no different from other platforms. What do you want to know? The selection of mainboards for TRX4 (Threadripper 3000) sockets is manageable, the RAM can be found in the compatibility list of the mainboard manufacturer. The rest can be found by looking at the technical data. This list may help you: www.digitec.ch/de/ShopList/Show?shopListId=5E8DB2DDD34EAE6AE... If you have any questions, please contact us. Greetings
