The DOWNPASS is a so-called zero-tolerance standard. Down and feathers from waterfowl (geese and ducks), which are used as full material in bedding, clothing and outdoor equipment, can be checked, tested and audited according to such standards. Specifically, this means that no goods from live animals (excluding moulting and live plucking) or from animals reared for foie gras production are accepted as full material. In addition, the rearing of the animals must be monitored. Only when these three basic criteria are met can we speak of down and feathers that have been procured according to a zero-tolerance standard. In addition to company-specific procedures and individual control promises, there are several such zero-tolerance standards that are audited and controlled globally. In addition to covering animal welfare aspects, DOWNPASS is the only standard that also checks product quality in terms of consumer protection. Independent third parties (auditing organisations and testing laboratories) are commissioned for both areas and are not affiliated with the companies or an industry association.
