In 1997, the anonymous notebook, which carried sketches and stories of many artists and intellectuals, was revived by a Milan publisher. The name is due to the British writer Bruce Chatwin. He preferred these simple, black notebooks from the French paper manufacturer for his work and lovingly called them Moleskin (mole skin).
