The Petzl belay family has a new member: the Neox is the logical continuation of the GRIGRI, which is often referred to as the "mother of all semi-automatic belay devices." New to the Neox, a belay device with blocking support, is the integrated pulley, which ensures a smooth rope flow and quick rope release, especially during lead climbing. This integrated pulley makes the gas station method for belaying unnecessary. The rope glides more smoothly through the device. In the event of a fall or when the climber needs to take a break while checking the route, the rope tenses, causing the wheel to lock. The cam rotates, resulting in the rope being clamped and blocked. It may sound technical, and it certainly is, but it works very well in practice - we were impressed by the simple handling during our practical test on the wall. To release the clamping position after a fall or break, the lowering lever is operated, and either the ascent continues or the partner is lowered. A progressive regulation of the rope flow with the lever allows for a smooth and comfortable lowering of the climbing partner. The Petzl belay device consists of two side parts that slide apart for rope insertion. Instructions on how to insert the rope are depicted on the inside and outside of the Neox. The ergonomic handle allows for easy handling. Compact, lightweight, and suitable for all single ropes (ranging from 8.5 to 11 mm in diameter), the Neox from Petzl is a semi-automatic belay device that promises excellent handling and maximum safety in both top rope and lead climbing: three times greater force transmission from the lever for better control of the rope flow with smaller diameters and less effort required to operate the lever with larger rope diameters.
