Galaxus draws initial conclusions and adds household appliances to the shop
Since the beginning of the year, Galaxus has doubled its product portfolio and visitor numbers, expanded its logistics and added a new product category to its range: household appliances are now also available on the online shop, alongside the existing IT, consumer electronics and telecommunications range.
Five months after its market entry, the young e-commerce company Galaxus draws initial conclusions: despite its silent launch with a BETA version, the Hamburg-based start-up with Swiss roots has been generating a seven-figure monthly turnover since January. Visitor numbers have also rocketed: around 100,000 users currently visit the online shop each week – that’s twice as many as at the beginning of the year.
The high-quality selection of IT, consumer electronics and telecommunications products caught the eye of visitors from the very start. Having grown from 50,000 to over 100,000 products since November, the first 6,000 electrical household appliances have now been added to the range. «In the coming weeks and months, we will expand this product category considerably,» says Frank Hasselmann, Managing Director of Galaxus. The product diversity on Galaxus is also planned to grow: «As in Switzerland, we want to offer pretty much everything on Galaxus in the medium run.»
«Galaxus is more than an online shop»
The web shop, which stands out with editorial content and a strong Community, is very popular with German online shoppers. This is a good omen for the start-up crew at the Hamburg headquarters: the first 10,000 customers found their way to Galaxus without any significant marketing activities. Since then, the upward trend hasn’t stopped: «Our customers have recognised that Galaxus is much more than just an online shop. And they recommend our shopping platform to friends and family,» Hasselmann adds.
He goes on to say that although the company is still in its infancy in many ways, the online shop appeals to users. Reasons for this are found in the variety of the online magazine, which features reviews, product news and background reports, as well as the international Community and the wide range of quality products at fair prices. «Our visitor numbers, number of new customers and duration of visits show that the successful concept from Switzerland is also striking a chord with the German public,» says Hasselmann.
Expansion of logistics centre in Krefeld
In the coming weeks, Galaxus will focus on growing its product range and gradually expanding its logistics centre in Krefeld. Since its launch, the start-up has doubled the number of logistics employees in order to promote the expansion of the North Rhine-Westphalian logistics hub and to handle the increasing volume of orders that are to be shipped on time.
And there’s no slowing down in sight: Managing Director Hasselmann is convinced that broadening the product range will attract new groups of customers. «We offer new products, inspiring stories and a transnational forum for expert discussions on a daily basis – an added value that will appeal to curious shop visitors.»
