Galaxus has recorded a jump in year-on-year sales for 2024. Sales across the company’s platforms grew by 18 per cent compared to 2023, totalling 3.4 billion euros (CHF 3.2 billion). Its Germany-based subsidiary, Galaxus Deutschland, saw sales increase by 27 per cent to 362 million euros. Galaxus, Switzerland’s largest online retailer, is continuing to invest in its German operations.

Swiss online retailer Galaxus recorded strong growth in the 2024 financial year. Group-wide platform sales spanning Digitec and Galaxus in Switzerland and Europe rose by CHF 484 million, bringing total sales to CHF 3.228 billion. That’s an increase of 18 per cent on the previous year. Net revenue generated by deliveries and services rose 17 per cent to CHF 2.9 billion.

In total, more than 4.5 million people shopped on Galaxus at least once in 2024, with 1.2 million of these customers based in Germany, Austria and other EU markets. Products from the Supermarket and Health + Beauty categories proved particularly popular in Switzerland, with sales up more than 30 per cent on the previous year. In Germany and other EU markets, Galaxus achieved strong growth in all product categories, generating platform sales totalling 362 million euros. That’s an increase of 27 per cent on the previous year. Galaxus Deutschland saw particularly high demand for mobile phones, notebooks and PC components last year.

Boosting capacity, expanding service offering, 1,000 new employees

By beginning construction of its new logistics centre in Neuenburg am Rhein in Southern Germany, Galaxus laid the foundation to meet the expectations of its growing customer base in terms of product range, quality and punctual delivery. The company’s existing logistics centres in Switzerland are already running at full capacity. By opening a new facility in Southern Germany, Galaxus is killing two birds with one stone. Firstly, it’ll be able to provide fast, reliable delivery to customers in Switzerland. Like the company’s existing logistics centre in Krefeld, the new warehouse is also ideally situated to serve growing European markets such as Germany and France. Galaxus plans to hire 1,000 new employees in Neuenburg am Rhein. Over the next few years, the Migros Group will be targeting substantial further investment in its online business in the European market.

Progress was also made in regards to developing services available on Galaxus. In late summer, the online retailer integrated artificial intelligence (AI) into its shops to answer specific questions from the Community about product information more quickly. As early as the beginning of last year, it launched an AI feature that uses a large number of customer reviews to generate a list of product pros and cons.

In September, Galaxus Deutschland moved into its new headquarters in Hamburg’s Hoheluft-Ost district. Over 60 employees relocated to the new base after the company outgrew its previous office on Schützenstrasse in the Altona district of Hamburg.
