Galaxus, the German subsidiary of Swiss online retailer Digitec Galaxus, saw sales on its platforms hit EUR 286 million in 2023 (EUR 182 million the previous year). That equates to an increase of 57 per cent. Meanwhile, parent company Digitec Galaxus grew 13.1 per cent, generating sales of 2.744 billion Swiss francs.

Rounding off its fifth full financial year since launching in 2018, Galaxus Deutschland recorded yet another year of strong growth in 2023. The company achieved sales of 286 million euros across its platforms, exceeding the previous year’s figure by more than 100 million euros. One of the highlights of the year was the launch of the marketplace on galaxus.de, giving external partners the opportunity to sell their products on the Galaxus platform. Around 3.5 million products are currently available on Galaxus in Germany, with an ever-increasing number appearing on the marketplace.

«I’m proud of our team, and I’m also very grateful. Against a backdrop of falling retail sales and rising living costs in Europe, we still managed to achieve considerable growth and gain market share in 2023,» says Florian Teuteberg, CEO of Digitec Galaxus. «Evidently, our customers appreciate that we’ve significantly expanded our range and improved our service and delivery times.»

Double-digit growth despite declining revenues in the sector

Swiss parent company Digitec Galaxus also enjoyed a strong 2023, achieving double-digit growth in a challenging market environment. Total sales across the Digitec and Galaxus platforms in Switzerland and Europe rose by CHF 317 million to CHF 2.744 billion. That’s an increase of 13.1 per cent compared to the previous year.

Lower prices, new customers

More good news came in the form of price drops, with a huge number of products in our range becoming cheaper last year. The development clearly went down well, as the number of new Galaxus customers rose significantly. Across Germany, Austria and other EU markets, more than 1 million people placed at least one Galaxus order in 2023.

While in Galaxus’s first few years of business, orders placed on galaxus.de primarily came from large cities such as Berlin or Hamburg, the proportion stemming from rural states such as Mecklenburg–Western Pomerania is increasing. This north-eastern state recorded the highest increase in order numbers in 2023. In Germany and the European markets, Galaxus achieved strong growth in all product categories. However, mobile phones, consumer electronics and IT products proved especially popular.

New services welcomed by customers

In a world first, Galaxus began publicly revealing warranty scores and return rates. The figures show how often customers return products, how frequently products break during their warranty period and how long it takes for a warranty claim to be settled. With that, Galaxus and Digitec became a reference work for the product and service quality of numerous brands. As a result, customers can tell whether the products they’re about to buy are of good quality or whether their would-be bargains are likely to give up the ghost prematurely.
