Galaxus customers’ search behaviour gives an indication of what will be under Christmas trees this year. Popular gifts include Lego sets, Apple gadgets and chocolate with pistachio filling.

Advent season is here and there’s excitement in the air. What will we find under the Christmas tree? Will I get what I wished for? Online department store Galaxus provides information on the search behaviour of its customers in Switzerland as well as in Liechtenstein, Germany, Austria, Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands.

Orchids – the lego kind

Customers are typing «lego» into the search bar quite frequently these days. Sets like the Hogwarts castle from the Harry Potter series, orchids in a flower pot or a mural of the Milky Way are in demand. Ranking fourth place are Lego technic sets of trucks, SUVs and a model of the solar system. Many of the sets are more suitable for adults than for children.

Apple devices including AirPods, iPads and Apple Watches appear in the top ten four times, with iPhones, taking second place. Gadgets from the US company are likely to be at the top of many adults’ and young people’s wish lists.

Sweet treats

In third place comes the food hype of the season – Dubai chocolate. No other confectionary is so on-trend right now, even though the creation with pistachio filling was actually invented back in 2021 (page in German) by a pregnant woman who wanted to satisfy her cravings.

Two game consoles that have now occupied the top ten for the fifth year in a row are the PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. This year, it’s likely to be the OLED version of the Nintendo Switch in stockings and the PlayStation 5 Pro Digital Edition under the tree.

Jigsaw puzzles are at the bottom of the 2024 festive shopping list. In keeping with the season, Galaxus customers are buying motifs of snow-covered Christmas villages, the Northern Lights or the Lofoten Islands.

What are you most looking forward to this Christmas? Do you know your loved one’s wish list? And are you shopping for gifts online or in stores? Let us know in the comments!
