Sony releases PS5 trailer, prices and launch date

The veil is finally lifted: Sony presents the launch title and other games for the Playstation 5. The launch date and price of the console have also been announced.

While Microsoft has already released a few days ago details on the XBox Series S and X, Sony has kept a low profile on the price and launch date of the new Playstation. Yesterday, Sony dropped the long-awaited bombshell at its Playstation 5 event, when it was planning to show "only" games.

The launch title

On "Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales", there was some gameplay to see and a villain wearing a Star Wars mask. Visually, the whole thing looks as variegated as Infamous. The game is confirmed as a $50 launch title.

"Devil May Cry 5 Special Edition" represents another launch game that will be released alongside the console. A DMC game straight out of the manual, but more stylish and with even more action.

"Fortnite" also has the honour of being named as the launch title. I have nothing to say about the infamous Battle Royale, which has sent Apple and Google into a terrible rage.

Whoa, what was that? The remastered version of 'Demon's Souls' is breathtaking. The dark worlds, enchanting sound and fluid movement are consistent, magical and really cool. And best of all: you can already sink your teeth into the ultra-difficult role-playing game from the creators of 'Dark Souls' at launch. The fact that Sony is charging the full price of $70 should be bearable.

Further information

The new "Final Fantasy 16" looks a bit like Dragon Age and offers plenty of gory action. The game is also expected to be released for PC. However, there's no word on when.

"Hogwarts Legacy" is obviously about Harry Potter. It's set in the late 1800s, there are zombies, flying horses and lots of monsters. It's due to launch in 2021.

In the new "Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War", it was a first mission in Turkey. Someone gets shot by a sniper and chaos ensues. The trailer also shows a remote-controlled car that seems to be speeding past normal trucks. The game is available digitally from 8 October 2020 in an open beta as an early access version for the Playstation 4.

The Resident Evil series will also be available on the Playstation 5: with the game "Resident Evil Village", set in Transylvania and due for release in 2021, the horror classic is also making its debut on the new generation of consoles. As in the last game, "Village" is played from the player's perspective.

"Deathloop - Two Birds One Stone" is a murder game set in the 1970s and presented in a Dishonored style; it will be available from the second quarter of next year. You have 24 hours to complete eight objectives. As if that wasn't enough, you have to contend with another rival assassin. It all sounds very promising. On the other hand, it's not clear when the game will be released.

"Oddworld: Soulstorm" looks like a cross between Lemmings and Mars Attacks. That said, it's much more brutal and set in a dystopian atmosphere. The worlds are bigger, the enemies are meaner and the game as a whole is even more absurd than usual. No release date has yet been announced.

As well as an intro and outro, there were also trailers for "Five Nights At Freddy's: Security Breach" and the Playstation Plus Collection. The "Plus Collection" is a collection of PS4 classics that you can play when the PS5 launches and is free for PS Plus subscribers.

Finally, there was a mini-teaser about the new 'God of War' game set in Nordic environments. This is suggested by the title ["Ragnarok"] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RjdHsTcrsE). As previously announced, the Playstation 5 is backwards compatible. So you'll be able to continue playing all your Playstation 4 games on the 5.
