Sony unveils PS5 games and more details about the new console
In its livestream, Sony not only showed the design of the console, but also the gameplay of various Playstation 5 games. In addition to the unusual console design, top titles such as "Resident Evil 8: Village", "Gran Turismo 7" and "Godfall" were also included.
Playstation fans had to wait a week longer. The event should actually have taken place on 4 June. The recent unrest in the USA prompted Sony to postpone the "Playstation 5 Game Reveal Event" by a week at short notice. Yesterday at 10pm, the time had finally come and Sony unveiled many things that the gaming world had had to wait a very long time for. According to Sony, the content of the show was original 4K content from the Playstation 5, although the event itself was broadcast in FHD. Sony also mentioned in the run-up to the event that viewers should wear headphones for the broadcast - a reference to the Tempest 3D audio technology used in Playstation 5 games.
This is what the PS5 looks like
The design of the Playstation 5 will be a talking point. The previously rather plain rectangular or square box - sometimes with rounded, sometimes with angular corners - will have curves, black indentations and a white surface. The console will be available in two versions. One with a 4K Blu-ray drive and one as a digital edition - without the corresponding drive. As the name suggests, games can only be downloaded with the Digital Edition and not installed via disc.
As before, the console can be used both horizontally and vertically. Sony has also already unveiled accessories for the PS5: A charging station for two of the new Dualsense controllers, an HD camera, a remote control and a wireless headset. Sony is sticking to the same colour concept, with a preference for white and accents in black.
And these are the game hits
"Resident Evil 8: Village"
The mood is dark, the characters are dark and the setting couldn't be more frightening. Just the way Resident Evil should be. The horror game centred around Ethan Winters seems to be based on "Resident Evil 4". An abandoned village is the main setting, with madmen wreaking havoc in a nearby castle. The whole thing takes place in the depths of winter and in the mountains. The player is also given an insight into Ethan's home, where his wife Mia can also be seen. Chris Redfield is also part of the game.
When the game will be released is unclear. The only release date mentioned is 2021.
"Gran Turismo 7"
The tyres will be smoking again - and how! Both classic vehicles and tracks as well as the well-known "Gran Turismo simulation mode" were shown in the video. The developers promise an even more realistic driving experience than ever before. The haptic feedback of the controller should make this possible. In addition, the new Tempest 3D audio technology should enable the driver to precisely localise other cars around them. Tuning options, the driving school, missions and the multiplayer mode are also shown in the video.
There is no release date yet.
"Godfall"
The trailer shows various characters who belong to one of the three classic Godfall classes. They fight with various weapons against heavily armoured opponents. Shields, swords, two-handed weapons, spears and double daggers can be seen. The video shows both smaller opponents and large bosses. The seamless switching between the three classes during the game is also surprisingly fluid. The new looter-slasher is also known as "Destiny with swords" - this is the game that fans are hoping for the most at the launch of the Playstation 5.
Godfall will be released at the end of 2020, with the launch of the Playstation 5.

The future of gaming?
What the console is capable of graphically is already known. Epic Games presented its latest game engine, Unreal Engine 5, in May and the YouTube video with fascinating tech demos impressively showed what the next-gen consoles will be capable of. According to Epic Games, this demo was running on a Playstation 5 developer kit, so even then there was an insight into the capabilities of the new Sony console. The design of the new controllers was also revealed back in April. The final piece of the puzzle was then revealed yesterday and the design of the PS5 was finally unveiled.
Sony has not said exactly when the Playstation 5 will be launched. All that is known is that it is planned for the 2020 Christmas season. Experts are talking about late November or early December. There were also no details on the price. Initial leaks on English websites spoke of £599, which corresponds to over 700 francs. Whether this is actually realistic remains to be seen.
Some technical details have been known since March. Compared to the Playstation 4, the new console makes a quantum leap. An ultra-fast SSD memory makes it possible to transfer data to the graphics memory at high speed. According to Epic Games, this is also the advantage of the Playstation 5 over comparable commercially available gamer PCs. You can find a summary of all the technical features of the PS5 here:
- 8-core CPU (3.5 GHz variable and 3rd generation AMD Ryzen)
- 10.28 TFLOPs GPU and 36 CUs at 2.23 GHz (variable)
- HDMI 2.1 (4K graphics with up to 120 Hz, 8K upscaling)
- RDNA2 graphics unit with ray tracing support
- 825 GB NVMe SSD (can be expanded via external SSD or HDD)
- 16 GB GDDR6 RAM with 448 GB/s
- 4K UHD Blu-ray drive (the Digital Edition has no drive)
- Tempest 3D audio technology
- Backwards compatible with PS4 and PS4 Pro
