Sony Xperia 5 V: the compact flagship
Sony announces its latest member of the Xperia series at IFA 2023. The Xperia 5 V lies between the already available 1 V and 10 V. The Japanese manufacturer also wants to appeal to content creators with this compact phone.

In typical Sony style, the keynote in Berlin will emphasise the company's own extensive strengths. From photography to film and audio, the manufacturer is represented in all areas. Sony has already shown that this can be combined well in a smartphone with the Flagship Xperia 1 V. Now comes the cheaper and more compact version.
Well, it's not much cheaper. You can get the Sony Xperia 5 V for just under 1000. In fact, it's 300 francs/euros cheaper than the flagship. And should be in no way inferior to it. The manufacturer believes that you won't even miss the third camera that has been saved thanks to the latest technology and software when taking photos. Sony doesn't like to bandy about numbers, which is why it is bringing practical relevance to the stage. Content Creator was allowed to test the phone in advance and report on their experience at IFA.
Nonetheless, here are a few key facts: The Xperia 5 V comes in the typical Sony film format of 21:9. The OLED display is 6.1 inches in size and offers a refresh rate of 120 hertz. The resolution is 1080 × 2520 pixels. The Xperia 5 V weighs just over 170 grams and measures 154 × 68 × 8.6 millimetres.
The hardware is at flagship level. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is installed, along with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal memory. You can also expand the internal memory with a microSD card.
The two cameras are a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle with 12 megapixels each. One 16 millimetre with 1/2.5 inch sensor. And one
24 millimetre with 1/1.3 inch sensor. The cameras support a 2x digital zoom, which should deliver lossless quality. The selfie camera on the front also offers 12 megapixels.
In addition, a large battery with 5,000 mAh is installed. This supports charging with 30 watts or wireless charging. A 3.5 millimetre headphone connection is installed for tried-and-tested music listening via cable.
In addition to the camera and compactness compared to a system camera, the apps are particularly exciting for content creators. The aim is to create good content as quickly and easily as possible on the go, i.e. editing videos and pictures. Looking back at the Sony Xperia 1 V, this is not really a new approach.
The Sony Xperia 5 V will be available from 19 September for 999 francs or euros.
