Dyson Smoothing
The new attachment for your Dyson Airwrap
Dyson has launched a new Airwrap attachment. I tried it and can’t quite decide whether to be disappointed or excited.
It looks very much like its older sibling. Too much like it, I think, at first glance. Dyson's Airwrap family has grown: a new brush attachment is available for the expensive multistyler. The range of attachments already included a smoothing brush. So what’s new about this one? It’s narrower.
But do you need the new brush if you already own the «old» one?
The small but subtle difference
I wash my hair, blow-dry it and begin my test to compare the two attachments. I'm styling one half of my hair with the straightening attachment that’s already been available and the other half with the new one. My first thoughts? The new one is easier to guide because it holds fewer strands of hair at a time. This allows me to straighten them without any hair falling out of the brush, as they do with the wide attachment. I’m guessing this is because the centre bristles are further apart on the old attachment than on the new one. All in all, styling my hair with the narrow brush is more pleasant and efficient, although the strands of hair are thinner. It also allows me to add more bounce to the ends of my hair.
In direct comparison, I prefer the result I achieved with the new attachment. My hair is more defined, softer and less frizzy. The wide brush allows for more volume, but also gives my hair a slightly strawy touch.
Yes? No? Maybe.
As the first addition to the Airwrap set, the narrow smoothing brush isn’t the showstopper I was expecting. You can achieve the same result with the wide attachment as with the narrow one. It just requires more brush strokes and patience. So the new attachment isn’t a must-have, but a nice-to-have. Whether you have a lot of thick hair or a little fine hair: in my opinion, the narrow brush is equally suitable for both types of hair. It’s easier to handle and minimises frizz – two reasons why I’d get the new attachment. However, I would have liked to have it in the Airwrap Complete set from the beginning instead of the wide attachment.
As a massive Disney fan, I see the world through rose-tinted glasses. I worship series from the 90s and consider mermaids a religion. When I’m not dancing in glitter rain, I’m either hanging out at pyjama parties or sitting at my make-up table. P.S. I love you, bacon, garlic and onions.
