These are the game highlights in August

Golf racing, a wrestling-filled battle royale, and a roller-skating third-person shooter are just the tip of the gaming iceberg coming out in August.

While Swiss National Day may be lacking in the firework department due to fears of wildfires, it does mark the beginning of an explosive month of new games. Here are the highlights of PC and console games set to be released over the coming 31 days.

«Hard West 2»

If you haven’t played «Weird West» yet or you’re a sucker for turn-based combat in a supernatural Wild West setting, check out «Hard West 2». With a bunch of magic tricks and other special abilities up your sleeve, your mission is to chase after a mysterious ghost train and leave no stone unturned.

Release date: 4 August for PC

«Turbo Golf Racing»

No, «Turbo Golf Racing» isn’t a new mode in «Rocket League». Though the parallels definitely can’t be denied, this game isn’t about football, basketball, or ice hockey, but golf. Picking up numerous power-ups, you and up to seven other players race through different maps to, finally, sink an oversized golf ball.

Release date: 4 August for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Two Point Campus»

The successor to «Two Point Hospital» switches up the setting of the management simulation game from the hospital to the university. Mind you, «simulation» is to be understood very loosely. You determine the curriculum and design the facilities. A robot dance school with robotic equipment? Sure thing! A culinary school with a pool-sized pizza oven? Why not? Entire castles set up for knightly lance fights? Go for it! This game really lets your imagination run free. Opening soon: the world’s most chaotic campus ever!

Release date: 9 August for PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Rumbleverse»

Forty players punching each other in the face with wrestling moves, battle royale style? Sounds delightful! Add to that the fact that the game is free to play, and I say, let’s play!

Release date: 11 August for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Cult of the Lamb»

You play a possessed lamb who founds a cult, recruits the surrounding forest population and destroys infidels. Cuddly and creepy at the same time... Hopefully, it’ll be a hell of a lot of fun.

Release date: 11 August for Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered»

This friendly neighbourhood spider will soon be casting his webs all over your PC. Just under a year after its release on the PS5, the remastered version of Insomniac’s open world hit will be released for consoles other than just Sony’s.

Release date: 12 August for PC

«Rollerdome»

«Rollerdome» is something like a cross between «Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater» and «Max Payne». It’s the year 2030. You skate through the Rollerdrome on retro roller skates to entertain the masses and shoot down opponents with your acrobatic moves. «Rollerdome» is brought to you by the creators of «OlliOlli World».

Release date: 16 August for PC, PS4 and PS5

«Thymesia»

Here, you can expect a hardcore action RPG in a dark fantasy setting. Not only can you cut a bloody swath through your opponents with your sword and scythe, but you also have your raven skills to help you. Turn feathers into daggers and use your bird of prey reflexes to skilfully dodge enemy attacks.

Release date: 18 August for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S

«Cursed to Golf»

One more golf game! In «Cursed to Golf», you are, as the title suggests, cursed to play golf to escape purgatory. It combines lovely pixel-art-style graphics with a whimsical story, adventurous golf courses and crazy special balls.

Release date: 18 August for PC, Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Saints Row»

After flying superheroes and aliens, the reboot of the «Saints Row» series turns down the craziness – but only a bit. As «The Boss», your aim is to dominate the fictional city of Santo, and a vast world awaits you on your mission. Countless weapons, tanks, helicopters, hoverboards and wingsuits provide ample chaos. Thanks to co-op mode, you can even multiply the madness!

Release date: 23 August for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Midnight Fight Express»

«Midnight Fight Express» promises a whole lotta action. Instead of going through an open world, you fight and shoot gangsters in a tight space to prevent them from taking over the whole city.

Release date: 23 August for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Soul Hackers 2»

«Soul Hackers 2» is a new JRPG released by Atlus, the studio behind «Persona 5», and set in a cyberpunk Japan. You play as Ringo, an investigator whose mission is nothing less than to save humanity from the apocalypse. You’ll fight supernatural beings in genre-typical turn-based battles with a growing band of heroes at your side.

Release date: 26 August for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

«Immortality»

«Immortality» already had a place on my list of game highlights in July, but its release has since been moved to August. «Her Story» and «Telling Lies» are already in Sam Barlow’s repertoire of gripping, interactive film games. He’s set to deliver the next at the end of the month with «Immortality». It’s about the story of fictional film star Marissa Marcel, who shot three films that were never released – and now she’s disappeared. Get gaming to find out why.

Release date: 30 August for PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

Being the game and gadget geek that I am, working at digitec and Galaxus makes me feel like a kid in a candy shop – but it does take its toll on my wallet. I enjoy tinkering with my PC in Tim Taylor fashion and talking about games on my podcast http://www.onemorelevel.ch. To satisfy my need for speed, I get on my full suspension mountain bike and set out to find some nice trails. My thirst for culture is quenched by deep conversations over a couple of cold ones at the mostly frustrating games of FC Winterthur.
