Canon cameras can now be used as webcams
by David Lee
In 2020, regular cameras can finally be used as webcams. Canon even makes this possible with Mac devices, while Fujifilm is focusing on Windows and Sony is also working on something new.
At the end of April, Canon launched a software that allows using a range of cameras as a webcam on a PC. This tool now also exists for Apple’s PCs. It’s the same link to the download overview. For more details, check out the news article:
Fujifilm has now also made a webcam software available for free download. So far, it’s only compatible with Windows and, just like Canon’s software, works via USB cable. The Fujifilm X-H1, X-Pro2, X-Pro3, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4 and all GFX models are compatible. This means, you can now use a 100-megapixel camera for a video conference call in XGA resolution (1024 × 768).
And Sony is working on a solution, too. The company has announced the launch of a PC software for live-streaming in July. What we know so far is that this software will work with the new ZV-1. Yet, I assume other cameras will also be compatible.
