Smooth and precise switching operations have always been a hallmark of Shimano cassettes. In the Hyperglide cassettes of recent generations, the pinions were placed so that especially when switching to
a larger pinion the chain runs extremely smoothly and with little vibration. With the SLX M7100 cassette Shimano introduces Hyperglide+. Thanks to this technology, the switching processes now run just as smoothly when shifting to a heavier gear and go 1/3 faster by hand compared to the CS-M7000 cassette. In the design of the cassette Shimano relies on a material mix of steel and aluminum in the sprockets. While the ten small sprockets with the lowest chain wrap and highest load are made of steel, the two large sprockets are made of aluminum. This load-dependent use of materials leads to even wear of the cassette and also extends the life of the chain. The cassette is held together by an aluminum spider.
