Compared to the previous year, 2022 saw Digitec Galaxus increase sales on its platforms by 8.7 per cent to a total of 2.427 billion Swiss francs. The Swiss online retailer was able to attract new customers to its services, particularly in southern and western Switzerland and in Germany.

In the fiscal year of 2022, Swiss online retailer Digitec Galaxus continued its solid growth. Group-wide platform sales for the Swiss, German and Austrian markets rose to CHF 2.427 billion. This equates to an increase of 2 per cent compared to the previous year. Net proceeds from our deliveries and services increased by 7.4 per cent to 2.206 billion Swiss francs.

«I’m proud and grateful that we’ve been able to achieve almost double-digit growth in this eventful year, despite stagnating retail sales,» says Florian Teuteberg, CEO of Digitec Galaxus. «This development proves how well the products and services we offer are received by customers and that our clientele trusts us.» In 2022, more than 3.3 million people shopped at Digitec Galaxus at least once; 700,000 of them in Germany and Austria.

This was certainly helped by the fact that Digitec Galaxus further expanded its product range. In Germany, it has more than doubled and now includes 1.7 million products. In Switzerland, the range of goods counts almost five million products. Digitec Galaxus has also added several hundred new suppliers and retailers. The majority of these are from abroad. In this way, Digitec Galaxus is helping to ensure that products from abroad are easily available in Switzerland at good prices.

In Switzerland, the electronics specialist Digitec and the online department store Galaxus again recorded the largest customer growth in southern and western Switzerland. In Europe, the online store recorded a high, double-digit growth in turnover. Daily consumer products were in particularly high demand as well as products related to the topic of the hour – conserving energy. The Swiss online retailer achieved its greatest turnover growth in the DIY + Garden, Supermarket and Health + Beauty sectors. Sales in these three categories grew by a double-digit percentage.

New boxes, less air and snail mail

The optimised carton sizes were met with a positive response from the Community. Thanks to the newly introduced sizes, 28 per cent less air is shipped per package and tonnes of packaging material are saved. The «Allow longer delivery times» option has also been well received by customers. It allows the customer to help take pressure off the online retailer’s logistics crew. The slower delivery option ensured that, as of the end of the year, over 95 per cent of all deliveries left our warehouses on time, even during the intense Christmas period.

Logistics capacity significantly increased

In the summer, Galaxus opened its second logistics centre in Krefeld in North Rhine-Westphalia to serve the German and Austrian markets and continue shipping the growing order volumes to customers on time. Fourteen thousand square metres of warehouse space, over 100 employees and a capacity for over one million parcels per year have taken our EU service up a notch, enabling further growth.

Making sure employees and media know what's up at Digitec Galaxus is my job. But without fresh air and a lot of exercise, I basically stop functioning. The great outdoors provides me with the energy I need to stay on the ball. Jazz gives me the tranquility to tame my kids.
