Galaxus launches marketplace in Germany
Galaxus is taking things up a notch, launching its selective merchant programme outside of Switzerland. Merchants can now use the online department store’s German site to sell products under their company name, with no base fee. In its home country of Switzerland, where the merchant programme was originally introduced, the market leader has partnered with more than 400 sellers since 2016.
As the largest online retailer in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, Digitec Galaxus sells pretty much everything – and the merchant programme is partly to thank for that. Just under half of the more than five million products on our site reach our range via the marketplace, while around 20 per cent of Digitec Galaxus products overlap with those offered by marketplace partners. Merchants benefit from Galaxus’ image and wide reach. In return, Galaxus can expand its product range across all categories, from electronics, to furniture, fashion, toys, household goods and supermarket products. This successful e-commerce model is now available on galaxus.de.
Unlike competing marketplaces that have long since been active in Germany, Galaxus uses a curated merchant programme, «Our merchants are handpicked and need to be a good fit for the Galaxus brand», explains Simon De Toffol, Business Engineer at Digitec Galaxus. «Galaxus isn’t some cluttered flea market. And the merchants aren’t able to buy themselves a prominent spot on the platform either. At Galaxus, we use customer-friendly logic when adding products.» Ten partners have already signed up to galaxus.de in advance of the launch, including big names such as ComStern.de, Shopfair24 and SwissCommerce.
Access to millions of customers in Germany and Switzerland
Simon: «Those who’ve signed up to Galaxus’s merchant programme benefit in Switzerland from a strong sales channel, an excellent reputation, a large and active Community, and a huge customer base.» In 2021, 2.3 million customers shopped on digitec or Galaxus at least once. «After just three years, Galaxus has grown to a significant (article in German) size in Germany, so we’d like to offer the use of our merchant programme to partners there, too.»
Merchants don’t need to pay any base or set-up fees at Galaxus; we take a commission for each sale. Signing up to Galaxus’ marketplace provides access to millions of customers in Germany and Switzerland. Detailed information and contacts for interested merchants can be found here:
