Access is controlled either directly via the PC application or via regular SMB, i.e. "\\hostname\freigabe". Of course, you can determine the respective names yourself. Unfortunately I don't own this device myself but they should all work about the same. Synolog is a very good choice, but I would definitely go for a 4 bay Synology, because trying to expand one with only 2 bays later usually ends up at Ricardo or Tutti. You can watch movies stored on WD Mycloud device on your TV, but real life scenario would be that device is not directly connected to the TV as it should be connected to the router/network that you have in his premises, and then through video playback app on his Smart TV you can access device like Media server and play video content stored on it.
